    Volunteer Program

St. Francis Healthcare Services initiated our Volunteer Program in 1985 for members of our community to provide support services to our patients/residents and staff while fulfilling personal goals. Since then, hundreds of Delawareans have contributed countless volunteer hours in support of the hospital's mission of providing service excellence in a caring health-enhancing environment. Our volunteers provide St. Francis Hospital and the Franciscan Care Center at Brackenville with committed, compassionate volunteer service.

Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital

Since its inception in 1924, the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital has worked to remain true to its mission of serving the hospital and its patients. As an independent corporation, the Junior Board has provided significant financial support with the proceeds realized from their many fund raising activities.

Working with the hospital's administrative team, the Junior Board identifies projects on which to dedicate its efforts and set financial goals. It has made possible the purchase of incubators, oxygen machines, GI scopes, hospital beds, scales, an infant security system, and most recently, in conjunction with other donors, the electronic medical record's system.

With a firm commitment to the patients and families of the St. Francis Hospital community, the members volunteer in specific services:

    • Escort services to various areas of the hospital
    • Information assistance for the family members of those undergoing surgery
    • Pediatrics providing books, coloring books and crayons for the St. Clare Van and the waiting rooms, as well as crafting hats for the newborns
    • Gift cart assignments - bringing warm greetings to our patients
    • Assistance to visitors in the lobby
    • Operation of the Pollyanna Gift Shop

The Junior Board always needs and welcomes new members. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital, please call the membership chairpersons, Ann Gallagher at 302.478.7471 or Letty Brennan at 302.571.9888
